In Gabon, IG Telecom selects Hughes broadband [Bikya Masr (Egypt)]

(Bikya Masr (Egypt) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Gabon IG Telecom chooses Hughes Broadband for new services.

LAGOS: Gabon is getting a boost to its broadband Internet services after Gabonese Internet Service Provider IG Telecom (Internet Gabon) has selected Hughes HN broadband satellite platform to expand its services in the central African country and neighboring countries.

"IG Telecom will employ the Hughes HN System, comprising a Network Operations Center (NOC) and up to 2,000 HN9260 routers, to expand high-speed satellite internet and VoIP service to homes and small-to-medium business (SMBs) in under-served areas of Gabon and neighboring countries," said IG Telecom in a statement released late Monday.

In addition to the Internet services, Hughes customized the antenna to include a dual LNB, which enables IG Telecom to deliver a triple-play offering including the French direct-to-home (DTH) television service Canal+.

It comes as Internet services across Africa are getting a boost in recent months with a number of international companies making a push to enter the markets and bolster services for citizens and users.
