China's Huawei says won't negoiate on tender terms with Nepal Telecom [Bikya Masr (Egypt)]

(Bikya Masr (Egypt) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KATHMANDU: Chinese telecom vendor Huawei has told Nepal Telecom that it would not engage in new telecommunications contracts until it had installed 4.8 million GSM/UMTS lines under an earlier contract with Nepal Telecom, but later breached that promise.

Earlier, ZTE and Ericsson did not take up Nepal Telecom’s tender and the company approached Huawei instead.

The contract, dubbed Package A, is part of the company’s 10 million GSM lines project, and Huawei had also secured the other tender for rolling out 4.8 million lines before 2015 (Package B).

However, Nepal Telecom says that Huawei has flouted its own declaration as it has started a new contract with mobile operator Ncell, two months after Nepal Telecom issued it a Letter of Intent, the Himalayan Times reported.

The management at Nepal Telecom is mulling whether to write to Huawei seeking justification or to allow the company to complete the project.
