Nokia unveils new handsets running Windows Phone 8 [Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates)]


(Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DUBAI - Nokia Middle East on Monday announced the regional launch of the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820, billed as two of the world's most innovative smartphones based on the Windows Phone 8 operating system.



Tom Farrell, vice-president of Nokia Middle East, said Nokia's flagship smartphone, the Lumia 920, is the most innovative device in its history. Lumia 920 includes Arabic-language capabilities and the latest advances in Nokia PureView imaging innovation.

Du is the exclusive telecom carrier to offer the smartphone in the UAE for its launch.


"The Middle East is one of the top key markets for Nokia and continues to be strongly committed to this region. This is testament with UAE and Saudi Arabia being among the six global markets for Nokia to introduce the new Lumia range with Arabic language capabilities with strong operator offerings and retail presence," said Farrell.

"The Nokia Lumia 920 Windows 8 smartphone represents the pinnacle of mobile technology, and we are proud to be the exclusive telecom carrier in the UAE for the launch of this smartphone," said Farid Faraidooni, chief commercial officer of du.

Vithesh Reddy, general manager for Nokia Lower Gulf, described the launch of Lumia 920 as the new dawn for Nokia. "[Monday's] launch signals Nokia's re-entry into the smartphone market." Reddy said by using advanced floating lens technology, the camera in the Nokia Lumia 920 is able to take in five times more light than competing smartphones without using flash, making it possible to capture clear, bright pictures and video indoors and at night.

"With the Lumia 920, it is now possible to shoot pictures and video at home, outdoors, in a restaurant or even at night, and come out with professional-looking results," he said.

Other features include City Lens, the latest addition to the Nokia location suite. "By pointing the camera at a city street, City Lens overlays information about restaurants, shops, hotels and more on the surfaces of buildings, for the most intuitive way to explore surroundings," said Reddy.

Nokia also announced a range of wireless charging accessories and partnerships. Nokia's largest ever battery. The Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be available at all leading electronic retail outlets in the country starting November 25 for Dh2,499 and Dh1,899, respectively.
