Etisalat wins mobile money award [Pajhwok Afghan News]


(Pajhwok Afghan News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KABUL (PAN): Etisalat Afghanistan -- the fastest growing telecommunications company in the country -has won the "Achievement in Social Inclusion" 2012 award of the Connected World Forum at the annual international conference on mobile money.



The event in Dubai, attended by international leaders in the banking and GSM Network industry, brought together the 2012 finalists including Etisalat, Citibank, Tata Teleservices, Telecommunications de Mexico and Unistream Commercial Bank.

A statement from the telecom firm said the award was given to companies and organisations for their socio-economic contributions toward the development of their communities.


Currently, mobile density in Afghanistan is 50 percent and growing rapidly, with 95 percent of Afghans having no access to banking infrastructure. However, mHawal, Etisalat Afghanistan's innovative mobile money solution, addresses the challenges of the financial services industry.

Services include central bank cooperation, banking ecosystem participation, utility merchant involvement, salary disbursement, complete mobile banking capabilities and future cross-border money transfers.
