Israel supported PKK terrorists by providing intelligence [Cihan News Agency (Turkey)]

(Cihan News Agency (Turkey) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ISTANBUL (CIHAN)- A terrorist attack in Iskenderun that left seven naval officers dead in May 2010 on the same day that Israel staged a deadly raid on a civilian passenger ship in international waters was made possible by information provided by Israeli intelligence, a Turkish newspaper has claimed.

The Yeni Safak daily reported on Monday that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) attack on a port in Iskenderun on May 31, 2010, was just three hours before Israel killed nine Turkish citizens aboard a civilian ship sailing to Gaza to bring humanitarian aid to the residents of the city and that Israel helped the PKK group, based on evidence acquired from a recently captured PKK leader, Kenan Yildizbakan.

Links between the PKK and Israel had already emerged in the investigation into the Iskenderun attack. Yildizbakan, who allegedly led a PKK attack in Mersin last year, was captured in possession of eavesdropping devices bought from Israel. He also received real-time intelligence from Israeli sources, the prosecutor found, according to Yeni Safak.

According to intelligence acquired in September, Israel used a fake company established in Azerbaijan to deliver to the PKK eavesdropping devices produced by Israeli telecom company Tadiran. The devices were shipped to Iran from Azerbaijan, and then to Turkey via northern Iraq. Following this lead, a special team of Turkish intelligence agents investigating the incident were able to gather further evidence of links between Yildizbakan and Israel. The PKK terrorist frequently visited Israel over the past eight years and cohabits with an Israeli national.

Yeni Safak reported that between the months of February and June 2010, the PKK bought 60 avionic communications systems and 35 VHF/UHF communication systems. The equipment can easily be carried in a backpack, allowing PKK terrorists to intercept communications between military units in their targeted regions. The devices can also listen in on GSM lines, Yeni Safak reported. According to the daily, all this information was found in an operation launched by Turkish security forces in Mersin on Nov. 12, 2011.

Yildizbakan's terrorist squad was responsible for 15 violent attacks in 2010. They also allegedly staged the Dörtyol attack in Hatay in May 2012 that resulted in the deaths of six soldiers and four police officers. Members of the group were captured in Aydincik, a small town in Mersin province. Yildizbakan has not said a word to police officers since Nov. 16, the day of his arrest, but his men spoke to security officers, according to the daily. One of the terrorists, Baris Kizilçay, agreed to testify after police officers brought his mother from Istanbul to speak with him.
