Ericsson, Huawei Win Mobily's Network Upgrading Contracts


Jan 14, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd have got the contracts for network upgrading from Etihad Etisalat (Mobily).

According to foreign media, Saudi Arabia-based second largest telecom operator Mobily will adopt different advanced technologies to expand and upgrade its 3G and 4G network.

The company has granted contracts worth USD 256 million to leading telecom equipment operators for the execution, expansion and development of the project. SAR 563 million or USD 150 million of the contractual value was given to Ericsson and SAR 400 million or USD 106 million was obtained by Huawei. Some other professional companies will work together with the two companies to expand and upgrade Mobily's 3G and 3.5G network so that the network could cover about 96% of the residential districts in Saudi Arabia.



A responsible person said that according to the contracts signed, all the expansion and upgrading operations of the enormous project, with an execution period of one year, were expected to be completed in the first half of this year.
