Baidu.com to Promote Mobile Browser in Africa, Middle East


Jan 15, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- According to foreign media, Baidu.com, Inc (NASDAQ: BIDU) and France-based telecom operator Orange jointly announced today that they had entered into a partnership to launch mobile browser in Africa and the Middle East.



According to the agreement, the mobile browser customized by Baidu.com will be installed in new mobile phones with Android platform that are to be sold by Orange. A special design has been made in data compression for the mobile browser. Users could as well conveniently visit Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter and other popular services via the bookmark function.

The move is target at serving fast-increasing mobile internet users. According to Orange, the demand for Android-based smartphones in Egypt increased by one time in the second half of 2012. Meanwhile, via such cooperation, Baidu.com will be granted the opportunity to show its understanding towards the emerging markets so as to prove the services developed in China could also apply to other countries and regions.
