BRIEF: Apple TV launches in Israel

Jan 15, 2013 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Apple TV has arrived in Israel, six years after its US launch. Apple Inc.'s (Nasdaq: APPL) authorized importer, iDigital Ltd. will market Apple TV at NIS 520 (compared with its US price of $110).

Apple TV is a supplementary device to Apple's iTunes. It provides direct access to Apple's content store, reserving movies, and listening to music bought from other Apple products. Apple TV can also be used to view paid television content and includes Apple's AirPlay wireless technology for viewing iPad and iPhone content or applications on television screens.

Apple TV makes it possible to enjoy video apps such as YouTube or Mako on the television screen. It is also possible to play iPhone games on the television, using the iPhone or tablet as the remote.

Apple TV's launch follows the opening of the first iTunes store in Israel in December. At the store, it is possible to buy HD-quality hit movies, such as "The Amazing Spider-Man", "Total Recall 2012", and "Brave" for NIS 60 or rent them for NIS 18. The cost of a SD-quality movie is NIS 55 and the rental price is NIS 15. Songs can be purchased for NIS 2.90-3.90 each.
