It's official: Pegasus serves award-winning food and wine onboard!

Jan 30, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Pegasus Airlines, flying to 63 destinations in 27 countries, has been rated as the best airline in Europe for on-board food in Skyscanner's recent European Airline Food Awards in the low-cost category.

In leading global travel search site Skyscanner's second annual study of the quality of on-board culinary offerings, Pegasus took the number 1 spot in the low-cost airline category after over 550 European travellers and bloggers took part as food critics.

This follows hot on the heels of Pegasus' success in the Skyscanner 2012 Airline Wine Awards when it took 3rd and 4th place respectively for its white (Kavalidere Cankaya 2011) and red wine (Kavaklidere Angora 2011) served on-board. Judged by a panel of wine experts in a blind tasting, 21 economy-class wines served on board the major European carriers were sampled.

By selecting Sabiha Gokcen Airport to be its principal airport and hub, Pegasus Airlines introduced Turkey to easy, comfortable and low-cost flying. Pegasus Airlines flew 13.6 million guests in 2012 and has a fleet size of 44 aircraft, including those of its sister airline Izair. Pegasus Airlines has Turkey's youngest fleet, with the average age of its Next-Generation Boeing 737-800s just 3.13 years. Pegasus Airlines flies a scheduled service to 27 countries and 63 destinations; that is 24 destinations within Turkey and 39 other international destinations, available to book online at www.flypgs.com.

Pegasus Airlines continues to invest heavily in the areas of flight safety and technological innovation to ensure on-time flying for all its guests. Pegasus was a pioneer in Turkey with its two investments worth US$ 23.5m: in Turkey's newest flight simulator which is owned by just 10% of the world's 582 airlines and operates at Pegasus' flight training centre and as the first airline in the world to integrate the two-way data communication system "Wireless Groundlink End to End Network Solutions". It also recently made the largest ever aircraft order in Turkish civil aviation history of US$12 billion (list price) for 100 new Airbus aircraft in addition to its US$3.2 billion US dollars (list price) order for a new fleet of 40 Boeing 737-800s.
