UAE phone fans head to stores to grab BlackBerry Z10s [Seven Days (United Arab Emirates)]
(Seven Days (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BlackBerry's?make-or-break Z10 handset is on sale in the UAE - and the boss of one of the country’s leading phone retailers says it is already on track to be among the most popular devices of 2013.
Axiom Telecom CEO Faisal Al Bannai said business was brisk at his firm’s stores yesterday, as the UAE’s notoriously ardent tech fans showed up to get their hands on the touchscreen device BlackBerry is hoping will help it regain ground lost to rivals Apple and Samsung.
“The BlackBerry Z10 is already shaping up to be one of the UAE’s best-selling smartphones for 2013,” Al Bannai said.
Retailers were braced for a rush yesterday, and in a positive sign for BlackBerry, Al Bannai said the device had attracted among the most pre-bookings for a new phone Axiom had experienced. Having been given a device to try in advance of the launch, Al Bannai claims BlackBerry now has a “truly competitive” smartphone again.
The latest launch underlines that “the UAE is one of most enthusiastic and vibrant BlackBerry markets in the world,” the Axiom boss said.
Indeed the popularity of BlackBerry devices in the UAE is the main reason that the country’s consumers can get their hands on the phone before those in the US - who must wait until next month.
