Du quarterly revenues exceed AED3bn for first time [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) United Arab Emirates telecoms operator Du has announced revenue of AED3.024 billion (USD823 million) for the second quarter of 2014, an increase of 13.7% from AED2.660 billion in the year-ago period. With quarterly revenues surpassing AED3 billion for the first time, the company said growth was driven by a 9.5% year-on-year rise in mobile sales to AED2.263 billion, including mobile data turnover of AED680 million (up by 18.6%), while fixed and wholesale turnover jumped 30.1% to AED541 million and 33.7% to AED177 million, respectively. EBITDA increased 17.9% from AED1.094 billion in 2Q13 to AED1.280 billion twelve months later and net profit before royalty totalled AED949 million in the three months to 30 June 2014, up 22.0% year-on-year. After federal royalty deductions, net profit grew 15.5% to AED548 million.*Du said that the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's (TRA's) SIM registration campaign resulted in a natural churn of 468,000 pre-paid mobile customers, as unregistered line were withdrawn from the market place, adding that 'further attrition is possible in the coming quarters'. At 30 June 2014 total wireless customers stood at 7.161 million, an increase of 7.6% year-on-year but down from 7.550 million three months earlier. Fixed line subscribers reached 619,000 at mid-2014, compared to 578,000 a year earlier.
