Bharti Airtel's Celtel Niger wins 3G licence [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]


(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Celtel Niger, the country's biggest mobile operator, owned by India's Bharti Airtel, has won a 3G licence and renewed its 2G licence, Agence de Presse Africaine (APA News) reported, quoting a government statement. The company has agreed to pay USD 70mn for the two licences for a period of 15 years.



Celtel Niger, which started operations in the West African country in 2001, has more than two million subscribers. It competes with France's Orange, Moov Atlantique Telecom, owned by UAE's Etisalat, and locally-owned SahelCom.
