Nos parent interested in Portugal Telecom assets [Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates)]

(Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The parent company of Portuguese telecommunications operator Nos has said it is ready to be part of the solution to keep the assets of Portugal Telecom in Portuguese hands, following a EUR 7 billion made by Altice, reports Reuters. Zopt, the controlling shareholder of Nos, which is the second largest telecom operator in Portugal, is owned by local conglomerate Sonae and Isabel dos Santos, daughter of the president of Angola. A Zopt source said the company could offer Oi the best financial conditions due to potential synergies and is ready to work with Portuguese regulators to ensure competition in the market. Nos competes directly with Portugal Telecom in all markets and from a regulatory point of view the deal could be complicated, market watchers said.
