Turkcell's Story Becomes a Harvard Business School Case Study

ISTANBUL --(Business Wire)--

Turkey's leading telecommunications and technology company Turkcell (News - Alert) (NYSE:TKC) (BIST:TCELL) has joined a select group of international companies that have inspired Harvard Business School (HBS) cases. The HBS case-study on Turkcell has recently been published, and will initially be taught on HBS's MBA program as a part of the 2014-15 required curriculum.

The Turkcell case is the first HBS study to be written with the cooperation of Harvard faculty and Harvard Business School's Istanbul Research Center which was founded in 2013. The authors of the case are Dr. Felix Oberholzer-Gee, Andreas Andresen Professor of Business Administration at the Strategy Unit of Harvard Business School, and Dr. Charles C.Y. Wang, Assistant Professor of Business Administration in the Accounting and Management Unit.

Turkcell's success in transforming itself attracts attention

Explaining the factors that have led the HBS faculty to study Turkcell, Dr. Oberholzer-Gee emphasized the company's success in meeting the challenges of a highly competitive market by transforming itself. "The Harvard Business School faculty team, supported by the HBS Research Center in Istanbul, was interested in studying Turkcell because the company performed so well in a highly competitive market. Turkcell is obliged to constantly re-invent itself in the face of pricing pressures, the move to value-added services, and changes in regulations- all of which makes for an intriguing case study. HBS students and th participants in our executive education programs have much to learn from Turkcell, both from its successes and from its challenges." said Oberholzer-Gee.

"As Turkey's only NYSE-listed company, Turkcell has maintained its leadership position globally - as well as nationally - with its commitment to technology, innovation and excellent customer experience throughout the years. We are proud to see that our ability to rise up to the challenges as a team has been recognized as an inspiring journey by one of the most prestigious business schools in the world" said Sureyya Ciliv, Turkcell's CEO. "We hope that we have paved the way for more Turkish companies to share their stories and inspire the rest of the world".

Millions of MBA students around the world to benefit from the Turkcell case

In addition to its inclusion in the Harvard Business School (MBA) required curriculum, the Turkcell case will be available to millions of students of Business Administration and other relevant fields. HBS sells, on average, 10 million cases per year and 80% of case studies used by business schools around the world are written by HBS Faculty.
