DLD New York City: Live Streaming and Lederhosen

NEW YORK, May 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

"New York is the city of cities, where we want to spend two days sharpening the senses and creating new insights with DLD," host Steffi Czerny explained yesterday at the opening of the second DLD conference on the American east coast. Transatlantic dialogue must remain vibrant and productive, particularly in light of current discussions regarding data protection and standardised conditions for international companies.

On the first day of the conference, many participants also concentrated on questions of location. In conversation with Burda board member Stefan Winners, serial entrepreneur Kevin Ryan explained that he has always founded his companies in New York for the simple reason that he wants to live there. In Europe, Scandinavia and Germany would offer better conditions for businesspeople than France, for example. For the USA, Gary Shapiro from the Consumer Electronics Show demonstrated why Utah, Virginia and North Carolina are the states most supportive of innovation, rather than California or New York. Ron Huldai, Tel Aviv's mayor, was invited by patron Yossi Vardi to explain how he has facilitated a vibrant start-up culture in his city: "free WiFi, free tablets, free coffee".

First-day speakers also included Sean Rad, founder of the dating service Tinder, who explained why he is withdrawing from the higher ranks of his company and his plans to concentrate on product development in future. Zach Sims (Codecademy) howed how easy it is to learn coding and world chess champion Magnus Carlsen explained what goes through his mind when he plays. He recommends physical fitness to avoid simple errors.

Guests rounded off the evening in the atmospheric beer garden at the Standard Hotel in the popular Meatpacking District. In addition to Bavarian delicacies, Steffi Czerny could not resist flying in a brass band from Tegernsee, Germany specially for the occasion.
